In January 2026, d&b audiotechnik introduced the U-Series, and the pro audio world took notice. These aren’t just another set of compact speakers — they represent a fundamental rethink of what a multipurpose point-source loudspeaker can do.
As an NYC-based AV production company that carries an extensive d&b inventory, we’re excited about what the U-Series means for our clients’ events.
What Makes the U-Series Different
The U-Series features a bipolar woofer configuration that extends vertical directivity control down to 500 Hz — something previously only achievable with much larger systems. Every model delivers identical low-frequency performance down to 55 Hz, using port design technology originally developed for d&b’s flagship SL-Series.
What does this mean in practical terms? Full-range performance without subwoofers for nearfield applications. For corporate events, gallery installations, and intimate venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn, this is a major upgrade.
The Lineup
The U-Series launches with six models:
- U3, U5, U7 — Passive models for traditional amplifier setups
- U3N, U5N, U7N — Networked models with Milan-AVB connectivity for modern digital audio infrastructure
Complementing the full-range speakers, d&b also introduced the B10 — a compact omnidirectional dual-10″ subwoofer available in both passive and networked variants.
Design That Disappears
One of the most striking aspects of the U-Series is its design philosophy. There are no visible handles or rigging points — the speakers feature a sleek, application-neutral aesthetic that blends into any environment. This makes them ideal for:
- Upscale corporate events at Manhattan hotels and galleries
- Permanent installations in restaurants, retail spaces, and houses of worship
- Theater and performing arts venues
- Museum and exhibition audio
Patent-Pending Waveguide
Each U-Series model features a new waveguide horn assembly that can be rotated 90 degrees without tools. This gives sound engineers unprecedented flexibility in aiming high-frequency dispersion, whether the speaker is mounted horizontally or vertically.
